The Early Days of Audio-Animatronics

Since June was devoted strictly to Jerry Rees, I'd like to now share the June piece I penned for The Walt Disney Family Museum's blog, STORYBOARD. It talks about the early days of Audio Animatronics, and how a fateful trip to a toy shop in Paris by Walt may have just sparked it all.

Dueling Disney: Counter Service Eateries

Sometimes when you get hungry in a Disney park, you don’t feel like a full-on sit-down meal. A snack, on the other hand, just won’t suffice. What’s a Disney guest to do? Ah ha! Counter Service. Counter Service meals are perfect for folks on a tighter budget, or those who don’t want to spend the time at a full-service restaurant.

Some Counter Service restaurants offer a cafeteria-style line, allowing you to choose from pre-made items, or place an order and have it put together for you before your eyes. Others involve ordering food from a cashier, and taking your receipt up to the counter to collect your meal. Whichever you choose, you can count on Disney to make sure even the Counter Service eateries blend in thematically with their surrounding area. But who does Counter Service (aka Quick Service) better? Walt Disney World certainly has more, but as we know, more does not necessarily mean better!

The Disney Project Podcast--Episode 9: CineMagique

Jerry returns to wrap up the wonderfully successful Jerry Rees month, and this time chats about a little film he directed called CinéMagique (aka the best in-park film Disney has ever done). In episode 8 of The Disney Project Podcast, Keith--maybe the world's biggest CinéMagique fan--challenged Jerry to stump him with some trivia questions about the film. In episode 9 Jerry comes prepared with a full "baker's dozen" of questions, ready to give Keith a run for his money.

There are tons of amazing details Jerry shares about the making of the film, scenes that were supposed to be featured but never were, as well as the symbolism of many of the scenes.

This is a podcast no CinéMagique fan should miss!
